Baby See: 6 months update
Wednesday, June 24, 2020
When I published Baby See's 3 months update previously, I told myself that I would write a post on his milestones and our first experiences on everything from solids to any illness etc. I love writing so I made it a point to work on this post whenever I had some time to spare. When I was picking out photos for this post, it brought back so much memories and it also made me realised how much he has grown! I really miss him as a newborn baby! I'm sharing these stuffs to remember it myself, as well as to share my motherhood journey with other Moms or Moms-to-be on what worked for us and what didn't.
There are so many things that I would love to share about his growth and development during these 6 months. If there's anything else that you would like to know, just reach out to me on Instagram @yongwei318 or via email.
4th month
Hives
I spotted some rashes on Baby See's neck and it slowly spread to the other parts of his body. We brought him to the PD and she diagnosed it as hives. No oral or topical medication was given as he's too young. I thought that it might be due to the avocados that I had a few days before the rash appeared but the PD said that its not possible. Baby See was super clingy whenever he breaks out in hives.
Milk
Milk volume per feed | Frequency | Feeding |
90ml-120ml | Every 3 hours | 5 times |
He drinks less frequently, about 5 times a day and he drinks lesser each feed. He also took much longer to finish milk.
We also changed his Hegen and Pigeon teats to medium flow and M teat respectively.
I also got my first postpartum period after 4 months of giving birth and there was a drop in my breastmilk supply.
Sleep
He has been sleeping through the night which means more rest for us. Yays!
Milestones
Baby See has been rolling over from his back to belly and belly to back. He can also sit in tripod position.
He has been screaming and squealing as well as making different sounds like panting. He also started babbling.
He loves rubbing his feet together and can reach out his hands to touch his toes. He also love to twirl things around his legs and toes.
5th month
Hives
We got a 2nd opinion at the polyclinic on the same day after his vaccination. His blood test was normal so we were referred to a skin specialist and given aqueous cream. He was so brave that he didn't let out a cry when his feet was pricked for the blood test! We tried oatmeal bath and the aqueous cream but apparently, both didn't work.
Diapers
Baby See couldn't fit into S size anymore and he started wearing M size diapers. It seemed like yesterday that he grew out of NB diapers and started wearing S. Where did all the time go?
Milk
Milk volume per feed | Frequency | Feeding |
120ml | Every 3 hours | 6 times |
He loves to play with milk bottle teat, he would use his tongue to push the teat left and right when drinking.
He went back to drinking 6 times a day.
Sleep
Baby See started having sleep regression during the 5th month. He would scream loudly for a prolonged period of time and on some days, he would stay awake till 2 or 3am.
Milestones
During the 5th month, we could pull him up by his hands when he's lying on his back.
He could reach out to lick his toes, sit unassisted, propping on his forearm, followed by doing push-ups and he could hold his milk bottle throughout his feed without dropping it.
We also found out that he loves ripping tissue paper. Whenever I read to him or spend time with him on bed, I realised that he loves to rub his sole against mine.
6th month
Hives
His hives usually peak in the late morning and afternoon and goes away during late afternoon and evening but return at night. It so happened that his hives cleared on the day that we brought him to the skin specialist and she diagnosed him with hives from the photos that I showed her. She prescribed antihistamine to him and told me to give it to him only if his hives gets very bad. She told me that for hives, usually we would have to wait for it to clear by itself and there's no definite reason what triggered it.
When we were collecting his medication, Baby See hives suddenly broke out and I saw him scratching it for the first time. The pharmacist also expressed his concern when he saw his hives and asked if he took antihistamine before and asked if it was a chronic condition. We went to see the skin specialist again and she asked us to get Suu Balm Kids as it contains menthol and thus would provide relief. We have been using Suu Balm Kids for a week now and his hives still come and go. If you know of any methods to treat baby hives, do let me know. I will be very grateful for that!
Milk intake
Milk volume per feed | Frequency | Feeding |
120ml-150ml | Every 3 hours | 6 times |
Baby See is still drinking 6 times a day. As he started solids, we would give him either banana or oats with quinoa cereal in the noon and evening in between his feeds.
Sleep
On some days, he would still fuss badly before going to sleep. He would go to sleep latest by 12am or 1am and wake up at 7am or 8am the next day.
He has been rolling over on his stomach and we saw him knocking onto the sides of his cot. We also found him grabbing the top of the baby cot with one hand when he's lying on his stomach. Looks like we would have to lower his cot mattress soon!
We also realised that he loves to sleep with his butt up, not sure how is that a comfortable position though.
Solids
We started him off with banana as well as oats and quinoa cereal that I got from iHerb. One thing we realised is that banana fibre is not digestible because we saw black strands in his poo! We usually give him oats and quinoa cereal during noon in between his feeds and banana in the evening in between his feed.
Haircut
Baby See had his 2nd haircut when he's 6 months. He was very cooperative initially but after a while he wanted to grab the scissors and started crying.
Milestones
He loves pressing his lips together and blowing raspberries. He has been blowing raspberries since he was 5 months old but during the 6th month, he could do it continuously for quite a while.
He could rotate himself by gliding, similar to that of leopard crawl before he actually started crawling.
He also started doing planks, upward dog and downward positions!
We have moved to Phase 2 post-circuit breaker in Singapore. Even though my Mom helps with taking care of Baby See during work hours so that I can focus on work. I'm still glad that I get to spend more time with him during lunch time as well as the extra hours before and after work which would otherwise been spent on commuting to and fro as well as witnessing his milestones!
I hope you enjoyed this post, the pictures and our experiences with Baby See. If you have any questions, just send me a direct message on Instagram @yongwei318 or email me.
