Cherry Blossom Viewing (Hanami) at Ueno Park, Tokyo, Japan
Friday, August 21, 2015
Prior to my Japan trip, I had Ueno Park listed down as one of the must-go places in Tokyo especially after reading about how it is one of Tokyo's most popular and lively cherry blossom spots with more than 1000 cherry trees lining its central pathway in late March and early April each year. Plus, it is the best place to hold hanami (cherry blossom viewing) parties! If you aren't familiar with hanami parties, basically you bring a picnic mat and enjoy viewing cherry blossoms with family or friends while having a hanami bento which can be bought from (Isetan Shinjuku & Daimaru Tokyo).
How to get to Ueno Park from Meguro
Take the JR Yamanote Line and alight after 12 stops.
After exiting from Ueno station, turn right after crossing the traffic light and you will find yourself inside Ueno Park.
I was marveled by the sight of the traditional rickshaw with iconic bright red blankers and high-perch seats which resembled those in the Meiji Period!
When we first set foot in Ueno Park, I was so disappointed as the cherry blossoms weren't at their full bloom. I was like, "You mean this is it?"
We had calculated and followed the cherry blossom forecast online just to make sure that we will be able to view cherry blossoms at least once during our trip from 11-20 April 2015.
Putting my disappointment aside, we went on to explore Ueno Park. It is no doubt a nice place to relax or go for a walk with family or friends. Besides cherry blossoms, Ueno Park is filled with many beautiful flowers as well as shrines and restaurants.
Couldn't resist taking an instagram-worthy picture when I saw this pretty flower!
Just when we thought all hope was lost, we came across this sight consisting of cherry blossoms in abundance! And we wasted no time snapping with our cameras and phones right away.
I don't think one can ever get tired of looking at cherry blossoms for they are such a pretty sight!
We were on our way to exit Ueno Park when we came across even more cherry blossoms!
Came across this photo-taking spot which is very popular with tourists and I knew I had to take a picture here. And indeed, it didn't disappoint even though we had to wait for about 10 minutes as there was a Filipino family in front of us.
Before crossing over to Ueno station, I spotted this retro-looking bus. Its so cute right?
