5 Must-Try Street Food in Hong Kong
Sunday, December 14, 2014Being a mere 4 hours flight from Singapore makes Hong Kong an ideal travel destination to many.
Apart from being a shopping haven to many, did you know that Hong Kong is well-renowned for its street food too?
1) Cold noodles 冷面
When my cousin, Bing knew that I was going to Hong Kong, she said to me, "You have to try the cold noodles!"
You see, the thing about us Singaporeans is that we sure love our food. Don't believe me? Ask around and chances are you would probably hear people asking about the newest cafes or restaurants to check out in town and for fellow Singaporeans whom are travelling abroad, they are likely to ask their peers or even Google for the best food or must try food in the country they are travelling to.
When I spotted 百味の皇 in Kwai Chung Plaza, I knew I had to give it a try to see for myself how awesome it is that made Bing crave for it when she's back in Singapore.
First, you select the ingredients you would like to have in your cold noodles. There's a lot of choices to choose from ranging from wakame to tamago and chicken franks.
3 packs - 5 HKD
7 packs - 10 HKD
8 packs - 12 HKD
After which, the lady will combine the ingredients and mix it up for you with some special sauce and you get to enjoy your customized cold noodles!

Curry fishball is no doubt one of Hong Kong's most popular street food. You don't even have to travel to Hong Kong to know that because it is always featured in TVB dramas.
What exactly makes curry fishball so popular? I say it has got to do with the aromatic and spiciness which warms up one's stomach especially on a chilly day.

3)Takoyaki たこ焼き
I'm sure most of you need no further introduction to Takoyaki or more commonly referred to as octopus ball. But what makes the Takoyaki that I had in Hong Kong different is that they were as huge as the size of an egg!

4) Deep-fried Pig Intestines 炸大腸
I have to admit that I wasn't that gamed when my partner-in-crime aka my traveling partner, Joanne for the trip suggested that we give these deep-fried pig intestines a try. But one bite was all it took to win me over.
The crispy texture reminds me a lot of roasted pork! Definitely a must-try when you are in Hong Kong!

5) Egg Waffles 雞蛋仔 Ji Dan Zai
And of course, you have to try the egg waffles in Hong Kong! Unlike the ones in Singapore, the ones in Hong Kong comes with mixed flavours - perfect for fickle-minded people like me whom can't decide between the original or chocolate one! Plus, they use more batter in Hong Kong, thus giving off a more contrasting texture when one bites the crispy shell, revealing the softness beneath.
